Addressing the Goose in the Room

Here’s a pretty common question: Where do you want to be in 5 years? Too far? Alright, how about 3? Still too far? How about 1?

Goose on the Moon was something we’ve always wanted to start, but in about 10 years down the road. It was originally going to be our boutique ad agency serving Boston and its myriad of businesses. Of course, there wasn’t a name yet when it was planned for a decade later, until we decided to say, “f*** it, we’re starting it next week!”, only that instead of making ads, we would be telling love stories. So why a goose? And why the hell is it on the moon? We’ll get to that in a second.

We come from a background of marketing, advertising, art, graphic design, music production, event management, dance, and so much more. We both gave everything to different disciplines at different stages of our life, but have never really stuck with one until now. We realize now that storytelling is what we love to do, and photo and video are our favorite ways to do it.

We were walking along Storrow Drive and the Charles, on a super hot summer afternoon, when we got a call from Charisma’s uncle’s friend to shoot and film a wedding in 3 weeks. We were a bit hesitant at first, but we decided to take the leap. After the call, the walk became a brainstorming session instead. Gears were turning, ideas were being formed, and hype was building.

A week before the wedding, we decided we needed a name. We went through many names, trying different combinations to find something that fit us. At one point, Charisma pitched naming it something related to our cars, which was an idea from Tee that inspired Charisma’s painting “Cars”. Tee’s car’s name is Goose, and Charisma’s car’s name is Luna.

At first, the name “Goose on the Moon” was pitched as a joke. It was too silly for something serious like wedding photography…but it stuck. The more we thought about it, the more fitting the name was. It fit our personality and captured us best.

Charisma did the branding, and we rushed to make a website, social accounts, and business cards before the wedding day. And thus, Goose on the Moon was born!

Since then, the meaning of the name has changed quite a bit. Goose on the Moon now conveys a sense of ridiculousness in our being in this business. We are the goose, while the moon is a strange spot where we never imagined we would be. An all-new, unfamiliar, exciting, but also scary place - where the air is different, gravity isn’t the same, and nothing looks familiar. At the same time, we are as close to the stars as we’ve ever been; the view carries with it a new kind of beauty, and under our feet lies a blank canvas.
